A letter from MDAD / PCRID Conference Chairs
Dear Sponsor,
For the first time, the Maryland Association of the Deaf (MDAD) is joining with the Potomac Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (PCRID) to hold their conferences at the same time and at the same location! As the theme, “Together. Stronger.” implies, we can develop a stronger relationship between the two organizations. The conference begins with the MDAD Opening Night Reception on Thursday, November 29, 2007, and the weekend culminates with a full day of PCRID professional development workshops on Sunday, December 2, 2007. Located in Rockville MD, the conference promises to be FOUR days of not only educational, but also networking opportunities. Join us for this history making event as members of the Deaf community and ASL / English interpreters learn, grow and become stronger, together.
The Maryland Association of the Deaf (MDAD) is a non-profit consumer advocacy organization which strives to promote the quality of life for deaf and hard of hearing individuals in Maryland. MDAD has provided one of the most significant changes in our state’s perception of deaf and hard of hearing people in the last few decades. MDAD was established to initiate and create a network of individuals and organizations that represent and serves deaf and hard of hearing people. Additionally, MDAD provides leadership to empower deaf and hard of hearing people all over Maryland by the creation of a support system that enhances their lives. The Potomac Chapter of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (PCRID) is committed to advancing the quality, professionalism, and integrity of sign language interpreting in Maryland and the District of Columbia through education, information, and advocacy. This year’s conference is especially exciting for the membership as it is a time to celebrate, through education and fellowship, our connection with the Deaf community. In-Kind Donations
There are some expenses that conference coordinators find to be quite expensive and cost prohibitive, as a result, some organizations have offered to donate them in lieu of cash donations. These include: sign language interpreting services, CART and equipment donations such as LCD projectors and FM loop systems. We have developed a breakdown of the direct cost of these services and welcome such donations. For those organizations that would like to offer sign language interpreting services, please keep in mind that all interpreters must have current, RID recognized certification.
