Along with this completed form, please include following:

  • a copy of birth certificate;
  • a copy of current audiogram:
  • one color or black and white 5 x 7 photograph showing your head and shoulders only;
  • make a $100 check payable to Maryland Association of the Deaf /Miss Deaf Maryland Pageant and attach the check for the special events and meals. (Suggestion: find a sponsor(s) to cover your expenses, i.e., wardrobe, accessories, hotel, meals, entry fee and special events.)

1. What is the Miss Deaf Maryland Pageant?
The Miss Deaf Maryland Pageant is not just a beauty contest. Although, this pageant is an exciting event in which young deaf women of Maryland can display their intelligence, talent, personality, poise, and self-confidence in their quest for the Miss Deaf Maryland title! There is an opportunity to win a cash prize, too!
2. When is the Pageant held?
The Miss Deaf Maryland Pageant is held during Maryland Association of the Deaf Conference on the weekend of November 29th-December 1st. It will be on Friday, November 30th at 7:00 p.m.
3. Who can participate in the Pageant?
The Pageant is open to deaf and hard of hearing women who are residents of Maryland. They must be between ages 17 and 27. Certain pageant rules apply, so please contact MD Pageant Director, Jeannette V. Zarembka.
4. How are the contestants judged?
The contestants are judged in five areas: Private Interview, Platform Presentation, Talent Show, Evening Wear and On-Stage Interview.
5. Who sponsors the Pageant?
The Miss Deaf Maryland is sponsored by the Maryland Association of the Deaf. The Pageant is organized, produced and planned by Deaf and hard-of hearing volunteers who give their time and energy to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience for all contestants and the audience.
6. Who sponsors the Pageant contestants?
A Pageant contestant usually represents one of the chapters, a club, or an organization (deaf or hearing). A sponsor also may be a school or college that has a deaf program, a business, a private club (Lions, Quota, Frat Division, etc.), parents, friends, etc. The sponsor is responsible for the contestant’s fees.
7. What happens to the Pageant winner when she wins the title?
The pageant winner will be crowned Miss Deaf Maryland. She will represent Maryland Association of the Deaf at public events, ceremonies, presentations, etc., for two years. She will be a role model for young deaf people in Maryland. She also will participate in the Miss Deaf America Pageant during the biennial National Association of the Deaf Convention which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, in July 2008. The winner of the Miss Deaf America Pageant will represent the National Association of the Deaf for two years.
